Blue Jays Add Years and Money To R.A. Dickey Contract

After trading some highly regarded prospects to the New York Mets in return for starting pitcher R.A. Dickey, the Toronto Blue Jays have now agreed to add years and money to the knuckleballer’s contract. The Blue Jays will add two years to the pitcher’s current contract and also $25 million dollars, bringing the total of their commitment over the next three years to $30 million. By adding years and money to the Dickey contract, the Blue Jays are now poised to make a run at the American League East division title, and battle for playoff contention with a solid core of high-priced star players. The addition of years and money to R.A. Dickey’s contract solidifies the Blue Jays intentions to go “all in” against a formerly indomitable division and finally expand payroll in an effort to win baseball games in a very large baseball market. Given Dickey’s talent and past performance, the addition of two years and $25 million to his contract looks to be like a very reasonable move for both the Blue Jays and their new starting pitcher. The addition of years and money to the Dickey contract looks to be a “win-win” for all parties involved. We should praise the Blue Jays for their recent addition of years and money to R.A. Dickey’s contract. I can’t think of any other way to put it.
